Almost Half of You Are Thinking About Trying a Weight Loss Drug!

Hi Reader, 👋

Hope you're having a great week!

I came across two nutrition stats this week that honestly blew my mind and I had to share:

Time is a major barrier – 44% of people in the UK aged 16–44 say a healthy lifestyle just takes too much time.

💉 46% of people under 35 in the UK are interested in using weight loss drugs!!!!

How wild is that?!

If you're someone who's curious about weight loss medications, this week’s YouTube video was made just for you. I chat about how these medications can cause muscle loss - and my strategies to avoid this. There is ZERO shame in using weight loss drugs, just make sure your using them wisely ❤

And keep an eye out for this weekend’s video – it’s all about Fat Loss for Busy People. If you’ve ever felt like there aren’t enough hours in the day to be healthy, I’ve got you covered!

In happier (and tastier) news… I got back into my kitchen this week and whipped up two new recipes:

🍯 Date & Peanut Butter Caramel – sweet, sticky, and sooo good.
🥣 Snickers-Inspired Overnight Oats – featuring that same caramel!

PS – This caramel isn’t low-calorie, but it is made with better-for-you ingredients, and I’ll always keep it real with you 😉

💌 As always, I love hearing from you. Let me know what topics or recipes you'd love me to cover next—or what you're struggling with most when it comes to eating well and feeling your best.

I always read and reply 💚

📢 Reader Question of the Week:

Maria, do I really need to eat breakfast to lose weight??”

Such a good question — and one I’ve heard a million times. The short answer? Not necessarily.

What matters most is your overall eating pattern and staying consistent with meals that keep you full and satisfied. That said, a good breakfast (especially one high in protein) can make a huge difference in managing cravings later in the day and preventing that 3pm snack attack. We see again and again in research that those who eat breakfast tend to be slimmer than those who don't. But nutrition is never a one sized-fits all approach so ultimately you need to find what works best for you.

If you're not a breakfast person, that’s okay — just make sure your first meal of the day sets you up with enough fuel and balance.

Think: eggs on toast, overnight oats with Greek yogurt, or a smoothie with protein and fruit.

👉 Want breakfast inspo? I’ve got some over on the blog — just search “breakfast” on marialuceydietitian.com but lets be honest, I need to up my recipe game and make a few more 🤣If there is any recipe you would like me to make please let me know :)

Have a nutrition question you’d like answered? Hit reply and let me know!

Hi Reader👋 I’ve been a registered dietitian for almost 10 years now...but before that? I fell for a LOT of convincing “nutrition facts” online. And if I’m being truly honest, sometimes I still do. That’s one of the reasons I love making YouTube videos. They give me an excuse to dive into the research and really figure out what’s true (and what’s just trendy nonsense). This week’s video is all about the surprising nutrition “facts” I once believed... and that you might still believe too....

Hi Reader👋 I survived another hurricane this week (life in Bermuda, eh?), but today I want to talk about a different kind of storm — the media hurricane around ultra-processed foods. Firstly, lets reflect, because every decade, there’s a new food villain. In the 80s, it was fat. In the 90s, carbs took the blame. The 2000s? Sugar. And now, in the 2020s, it’s ultra-processed foods. Think packaged snacks, frozen meals, sweetened cereals, fast food. The headlines make them sound terrifying, but...

Hi Reader👋 Hi friends, I was watching the Biggest Loser show on Netflix last weekend. Its called Fit For TV (did anyone else catch it?) It’s all about what went on behind the scenes of the original show and where the contestants are now. What really stood out to me was how much emphasis was put on rapid weight loss. We’re talking people eating as little as 800 calories a day and exercising for hours. Sure, the weight came off quickly, but at a huge cost: muscle loss, slowed metabolism, and an...
